Intwine Paperie is a home-based business that creates meaningful graphic art in the form of high-quality greeting cards, stationery, invitations, etc.

In 2011, Maffrine LaConte was an architectural designer, having studied architecture at the National University of Singapore; Ophelia Dunk was a graduate student, pursuing her master’s degree in interior design at California State University, Northridge.  The two had met at their local church in Los Angeles a few years prior and immediately became friends through their shared interest in design.  It was not a surprise, then, that they soon realized how, together, they can start a business that would allow them to prioritize their families and homes while pursuing their passion of design.  Since architecture and interior design would often take them out of their own homes, Maffrine and Ophelia decided that graphic design would be their best avenue of creative outlet.  After years of planning and even some major life changes, Maffrine and Ophelia launched their highly anticipated business in 2014 with their first line of greeting cards, titled “In Numbers”.

The name of the business evolved much throughout the two years prior to its launch.  All the setbacks and disappointments were worth it, however, when the final name was selected.  The Partners, Maffrine and Ophelia, draw the word “Intwine” from the imagery of the Bible passage Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.

“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor.  For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion.  But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.  Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone?  And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him.  A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”

The two Partners had already selected this passage to be the foundation of their business, because they believe that without each other and, most importantly, without God, their business would fail.  The word “Intwine”, therefore, is intended to serve as a continual reminder of their dependence on one another and on God.  The word also very adeptly speaks to the mission of the business, which is to bring people closer together through its products.

The second half of the business’ name, “Paperie”, describes the type of product and service it provides.

With these considerations in mind, then, the Partners are excited to have the words “Intwine Paperie” represent the philosophy, mission, and nature of their business.

By translating inspirational and encouraging truths from the Bible into communicative art, Intwine Paperie aspires to design products that will cultivate personal and tangible connections between people.  It aims to serve as a means to help others, namely, to provide a product and a service that would inspire others to care for one another more.

The Partners of Intwine Paperie, Maffrine and Ophelia hold to the understanding that the Bible, full of poetry, narratives, and even personal communications between individuals, is the best source of inspiration for bringing people together.  As a result, the DESIGN philosophy of Intwine Paperie is to draw out these inspirations from the Bible into its products.  The BUSINESS philosophy of Intwine Paperie hinges on the principles of the Bible as well, namely the principles of wisdom, stewardship, love, and care for one another.   Consequently, in tandem with their mission to cultivate personal and tangible relationships between customers and their loves ones, Maffrine and Ophelia purpose to cultivate their own personal and tangible relationships with each individual customer through the way they do business.

  1. “Praise the Lord!
    How blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
    Who greatly delights in His commandments.
    His descendants will be mighty on earth;
    The generation of the upright will be blessed.
    Wealth and riches are in his house,
    And his righteousness endures forever.
    Light arises in the darkness for the upright;
    He is gracious and compassionate and righteous.” – Psalm 112:1-4
